Angelica Stacy Carpenter

Angelica Stacy Carpenter

Carpenter says that her mother, Jean Shirley, was her inspiration for writing. She was the library director for Florida's Palm Springs Library for 16 years. While in Florida, she and her mother organized events for the  Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.  This helps to explain why many of her books are directed towards minors and re readable by people of all ages. She says that In my books I hope to explain the importance of famous children's authors, and to relate their lives to the time period in a manner that is interesting and relevant to today's young people. Since I still have a (wonderful) day job, I write in the evening and at least two hours each weekend day. Actually when I am deeply involved in a project I write much more than this; the problem is stopping, and sleeping, not writing.

In 2011, she retired from  Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at California State University, Fresno after being the founding curator. She currently is the Curator emerita for the Arne Nixon Center. She is a past president of the International Wizard of Oz Club. She likes to read, travel, shop, cook, watch movies, and listen to rock and roll .
